Thank you for changing our lives with these gadgets called.... Apple computers, Macintosh, iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc. You dare to make changes where others do not, thus taking the calculated risks to bring us products that changed our lives.
In your time, hardware are visionary, superior, with quality at reasonable prices, better than the predecessors'.
In your time you also made excellent software at entry prices that entice, educate and lift us up intellectually. Final Cut and a good list of other sophisticated industrial quality software were made accessible to us.
I am always confident of buying and recommending Apple products. My conviction in Apple got me to evangelise, for decades.
I wish you the best health.

He may have just wanted to ensure that the company was in good hands and/or or to finish various projects he was involved in before moving on.
As COB, he can still be instrumental in keeping things operating well--and why would the Apple BOD approve such an appointment if his health was bad?
He may have interests of a broader scope which he can get involved in. Perhaps we'll see.
In any event, thank you so much, Mr. Jobs for your contributions. I love your products.

As others have pointed out. This is not the end for Steve, just a more appropriate role, under the circumstances. We all wish Steve and his family the best and trust that the new role helps him live life to the full.
