Oddly enough, I'm happily using two of the misses and coveted a third. Only the buttonless shuffle failed to capture my interest.

Even Apple's misses look better than other companies' hits.

Good list, although I'm at a loss to understand why the original Macintosh is missing

@John - That's because the Macintosh wasn't a Jobs thing. He championed the Lisa, which I would argue should replace the AppleTV as the latter was a modest success.

The Cube might be the Marmite of Macintoshes. I loved mine. Still my favorite Mac ever. Mind you, I picked it up refurb after the price had dropped, so it was only around $1K. At that price, a great computer. At the original price, an overpriced Jewell.

You include iPhoto, but not GarageBand? Also, PowerMac G3 and G5.

Jobs led the Macintosh team. It was isolated from the Apple II/III people and the Lisa group. One of the reasons Jobs was fired was because he kept pouring money into the Macintosh, which wasn't making money, while neglecting the "core business," the Apple II series (IIe, //c, IIGS), which made all the money.

Easy to forget that the first LaserWriter cost $6,000 at introduction—something like $12K in today's dollars. And yet some companies found it a bargain.

@palane

Where's the original Mac? Jobs took over a project that was started by Jef Raskin. But Steve was the driving force behind the gestation and birth of the original Mac.

The Mac team wore T-Shirts that said: "working 100 [hours per week] and loving it!"

A top independent programmer, at the time, said (paraphrased): Every computer [and program] to come will stand on the shoulders of the Mac.

Steve Schwartz a very good and experienced programmer -- tore some pages from the Mac HIG* and nailed them to the wall of his cubicle.

I had an Apple II. It didn't include a floppy, either internal or external.

I can't wait till they release the next great Mac (Steve Jobs) Item. The new Mac Flat Screen TV. It has a built in computer with all electronic everything. No more spinning disk drive. You'll be able to do everything you do with your computer now right on your TV. With PIP you can split the screen in half for TV and Computer or place the TV or computer in any corner. iTunes with a click of your remote. You can watch a movie in seconds.It will come in 40 inch, 50 and 60 inch screens. Built in BlueRay/DVD player recorder, that works with either the Computer or TV. Mac's new voice recognition, works right through the remote control. The remote has a small LED screen so you can set it to and from TV and computer with small useable keyboard. But most commands will be through voice recognition. NO ONE will have anything like it. One of the greatest things this TV/Computer will have is called Windows Of The World. You will be able to bring hundreds of cameras from around the world right into your home. When your in screen saver mode you can pick up to 10 cameras from around the world. These cameras that will show you in real time what's happening around the world. England/London, France/Paris, Japan, China,India with Apples Windows Of The World it will bring the world live right into your home.

One of the biggest oversights to the news that Steve Jobs is stepping down is that he is terribly ill and the end is near. We should be pointing the fact that he may not have long to live. I think a major tribute is in order.

I think some would argue that the Mac is really Jef Raskin's product and Jobs took it away from him when the Lisa flopped.
