To me, it looks as if Photoshop elements has a very strong set of photo editing abilities (that mentioned focusing on, and recognition of, specific objects in a photo, with "suggested edits"), plus its "organizer" which intelligently picks up not only duplicate scenes but also duplicate faces: these aren't present in Pixelmator.
But, in Pixelmator, I have the ability strongly to select and edit even non-photo files. I use it to edit (and export) files for my website. I often use it to select and create abstract images (drawings, signs, icons, etc.) for my website. These, I do, with ease in Pixelmator.
I have no experience with Acorn, so, I can't say.

Glad I read this as I thought I was the only one with the problem. I got tired of sending in the report to Adobe of the suposed crash when I shut it down properly. Obvious that Adobe does not read these crash reports or they would have fixed it.

Same here - It failed to import from iPhoto as it was suppose to so I exported manually.
Then after I got a few thousand pictures into the Organizer it became unusable. I reported it to Adobe right away.
Now I know why Steve Jobs says Adobe is lazy.
I don't think they could fix a flashlight.

Glad to know it wasn't just me! I mean, did they even test it?

Not true...
The window for Adobe Photoshop CS6 is known.
They're giving a lot more information than they used to in this regard.
