Sooo, no iPhone 5? I wonder what all those people who manufactured those new cases will do with out a product to be placed in them.

So who's buying one? This is like an upgrade from a Golf to a GTI. While it looks the same outside, it's entirely different under the hood. I like it.

A little disappointed to be honest. Not that the iPhone 4S isn't an improvement, but it seems this gathering was more to announce that iOS 5 and iCloud are just about ready and now have a release date. iPhone 4S seems like an extra they threw in because no new iPhone hardware would have caused everyone there to scream. I'm a bit surprised Apple called a whole conference to announce that everything they already talked about back in WWDC has a ship date, and oh, by the way, we modified our hardware to make it a little better, Meh.

OK, looks like a nice refresh. Quality update, but...

There have been rumors of Apple installing a Censoring "Copyright Guard" on their video and photo taking ability. Meaning if the phone gets a signal somehow, the ability to shoot video or pics is intentionally disabled. Meaning... if someone was protesting at say OCCUPY WALLSTREET and getting abused by the police, a bystander could not record the moment for history sake. Just saying, freedom of speech is a great thing and i would like a definitive answer that there are NO curtails on this.

It's a good enhancement, but if I were an Android phone manufacturer, I would heave a sigh of relief.

This is absolutely horrifying news. Now, not only will we have to listen to clueless boors talking on their phones in public, we'll have to listen to them talking TO their phones. And then hear their phones talk back!

I think they could have made the event a lot shorter, but this is still a big release. My guess is that the 4S is a stopgap until it makes sense to release an LTE phone, plus it was a chance for Tim Cook to lead a product release without Steve Jobs. My guess is he'll tweak the format a bit to suit his own style.

Also, they hadn't talked much about Siri. My suggestion would have been to cut out most of the iOS 5 preview since we already saw it. Focus on Siri, since that's the real deal, and it requires the extra processing power of the new phone.

Apple stock is dropping. So far Tim Cook has proven that he is no Steve Jobs. This release is a joke. A two year old camera that is pretty much an Android standard is the big upgrade? So now Apple stopped leading and are following? Voice recognition software like the stuff that Windows started using in 2003 is the big software update. I'm surprised the stock is only down 5% so far. Tim Cooks first press event=FAIL.

I heard the same thing but it was his foot... I call BS. I've a;leo heard that the iPhone keeps it's camera on 24/7 and sends the video feed straight to OPI. There servers compare every face in every phone and also collect DNA. Get a life.

Current LTE chips would drain the battery too quickly, and Apple won't call it an "iPhone 5" until it has LTE.
So basically, we got the iPhone 5 minus LTE, hence a 4S.

Meanwhile, if you're willing to take the battery life hit (or just carry a bigger phone with a bigger battery) there are plenty of Android devices out there. Apple just doesn't roll that way.
And now a word from our lawyers.
