No matter how many times I read it, I still find it hard to believe. The Apple community and the tech world in general has suffered a real loss today...

We can only hope that he did not suffer to much. What a wonderful life, always seeking excellence.

How interesting that I found out the news via a push notification on my iPhone. So sad ... we've lost this generation's Walt Disney.

The signs Steve would not be with us for much longer were there but collective and individual denial made today still seem very unreal. As for me, Apple products have been a part of my life since my first week of lost sleep as I explored every avenue of a new funny box that was called the Macintosh 128k back in 1984. I have never looked back even in Apple's darkest days. But all of the innovative products, as wonderful as they are, are really just the natural result of an unwavering commitment to excellence and an equal distaste for the "good enough" mentality that characterized the approach taken by others. It is this, I believe, that makes Apple what it is and the (sometimes covert) envy of companies who produce superficially similar products.
Steve is an example of fearless leadership that shines all the brighter against the backdrop of a leadership vacuum that seems to be endemic in corporate and public America. The company he built and the life he lead will serve as a powerful inspiration for those wise enough to heed their lessons.

My deepest sympathies to Steve's family, friends and the millions he touched.

A sad day for anyone whose lives have been touched by personal computing tech in the last 30 years. The modern user interface, the iPod, smart phones... Steve played a huge hand in bringing all of these things to us. THings that have become so ubiquitous we don't even think about them; they're just like extensions of our daily activity. That's how you know someone had a big impact. We don't think about light bulbs and floating windows with mice, and all the other amazing innovations that make modern life possible... but Steve was one of those men. His legacy will last for generations. Long after most of us are forgotten.

The first thing I saw on my Mac after installing Lion was that Steve Jobs had passed away. Two hours later, I'm still so shocked that I've been unable to look at any of Lion's features.

Rest in peace, and thanks, Steve.

Don't worry Steve, Apple is in good hands with Tim, Phil and the rest of the staff. You've put together a team that will keep your dream of insanely great software and hardware that will continue to delight and amaze us far into the future. I'm better for having known you.

I have owned almost every Mac made since I purchased my first Mac Plus decades ago. I even sold NeXT computers for awhile. In fact I still have a fully operational NeXT Cube sitting in my basement. I had the pleasure of being at Macworld when Jobs returned shortly after Apple purchased NeXT. Though I never had the pleasure of meeting him. I feel like I have lost a member of my family. Odd how someone you don't really know can have such and impact on your life. I cannot image the grief of those who actually called him a friend, a husband or a father. My prayers go out to them all. Rest in peace Steve. The world is a better place because you were here.

Being roughly the same age, I grew up with Apple and Steve. He has been an inspiration to my life, and I will remember always the friendly banter we had over hardware issues when I was the Service and Support Manager for the Byte Centre in Australia in the 80s.
Steve always had a passion for whatever he did, and I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and condolences go to his wife and family, but rest assured we will remember him.

I'm surprised at how sad I feel about this. It's weird.
