I've generally found Apple releases major updates like this between/around 1PM and 3PM Eastern.

You forgot one of the multitouch gestures...

4 finger pinch: if you want to quickly show the desktop while in an app, just pinch the screen with 4 fingers.

I'm most curious about memory management. My iPad has started crashing almost daily, and individual programs, such as Mail can be slow as molasses. Using xsysinfo has revealed that low memory is the problem. I sometimes wish multitasking had not been implemented. It feels like I'm using a 90s era Macintosh!

Any indication if memory management has been improved?

You just made this up, because it's not historically true.
Does someone in Cupertino have to Red Bull awake enough to flip a switch between 10 and noon PDT to turn on the servers in North Carolina?

I doubt it. I don't doubt a problem somewhere, however.

Do we still need to plug our old phones in to our computers to get iOS 5 or is it downloadable from the app store like lion was? Does the over-the-air updates start here or after it is installed the old fashioned way first?

How long until the iCloud photo sync catches a cheating spouse? I can see it now:
Faithful spouse using iPad to show the visiting family cute pictures of the kids... meanwhile cheating spouse is on a "business" trip taking naughty pictures with their iphone... iCloud uploads those pictures and syncs them to all linked devices...

Almost 13,000 words. That's a lot of new features.

Ok.. great internet device..love it. All grown up now.. Now, Any chance we can finally fix some of the shortcomings of .. you know.. the PHONE?

I had a stupid, basic candybar phone that had more calling features than my iPhone, 3 years later.

Case in point - that simple phone had the capability to block specific numbers or unknown callers and send them to VM. Where is that little feature in the iPhone? It still exists in Nokias, and other phones..

And call quality..?

After you need iOS5 for the over the air features.
