Good review, thanks. And, I'm happy that iTunes is using Lion's swiping gestures now too...

One issue that needs fixing again is synchronizing smart playlists. It had been an issue with ios 4.2 at one point. Since the last update (iTunes 10.5 or ios 5, the smartplaylists don't seem to sync, the order i see on my phone looks random and i can't order it anyway (count, alphabetical etc.)

My only concern is how much data usage this will be on your Internet connection? Also how much will this affect battery life on mobile devices?

Thank you iCloud for multiplying my appointments in iCal all over the place although iCloud is the only thing I subscribe to, I'm still having fun cleaning it up, never a dull moment :-)

Nice summary. Slightly off topic, but I couldn't download a podcast from my phone unless on wifi? Is there a workaround?

"One reason that you may see iTunes less often is wireless sync, a feature of iOS 5 that allows you to sync your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with iTunes 10.5 without the aid of wires—at least after the first time you sync your device. For this to work your device must be using iOS 5 and your Mac need only be running Mac OS X 10.5 or later—Lion isn’t required.

In order to enable wireless syncing, you must first plug your iOS device into the computer you wish to sync with. You then select the device in iTunes’ Source list, click the Summary tab, and then within the Options area enable iTunes’ Sync With This iPhone/iPod/iPad Over Wi-Fi option. Click Apply and iTunes will sync with the connected device."

I believe this is somewhat incorrect. iTunes/Apps/iBooks requires 10.6.8 - it won't work with 10.5.x or up to 10.6.7 as there is no "sync over wi-fi" option available in the Summary section. I was on 10.5.8 and didn't see the option until I upgraded (finally) to 10.6.8.

How does all this work with multiple user accounts which are the norm in most house holds. These articles drive me nuts, they always over look when talking iTunes and iPhoto. Do I need a copy of iTunes running on all accounts all the time for these features to work? Is is possible to run iTunes on all accounts at the same time? What other issues are there dealing with multiple accounts? Five out seven families I know have multiple accounts on there Mac articles like this just ignores this fact.

Unfortunately, it appears that the reviewer has made little use of iTunes 10.5 in Lion, or he would've run into a major problem. Currently, the insertion mark, once the cursor is placed in the search box, sticks to it like glue and all commonly used keyboard commands, except for Command-L (show current song) result in an action in the search box, not in the playlist. For instance , if you type in "Yesterday" and hit enter, you will be presented by the song(s) "Yesterday", as expected, but if you then highlight a particular song to be deleted, and hit "Enter", only the last letter in the search box will be deleted.
In effect, this renders keyboard use in iTunes useless. It's obviously a bug that will be remedied at some point, but one would hope that a thorough review unearths such bugs rather than glares over them.

Some general advice: Before you throw terms around like "bug" and suggest that a reviewer hasn't done his or her homework, you want to be very sure that the behavior you're reporting is something that is universal and repeatable on other Macs. In fact, I've run through the scenario you've outlined and there is no such problem with my Mac. That doesn't mean that others may not experience it, only that it's an issue that goes beyond a simple, repeatable bug. Please dig into it some more and if you can find a way to repeat the issue on other Macs, please let us know (and report it to Apple).

Uhm..., nope: music isn't in the "Automatic download" iTunes/Iphone options.
Maybe, together with the localization feature for Reminders, this is an unmotivated missing feature for the 3GS models?
