In its effort to "fix" mobile me, it appears to me that Apple has taken three gigantic leaps backward!!!

What's wrong with the iDisk approach? I guess I naively assumed that iCloud would adopt a similar approach to iDisk (and DropBox), but that it would simply "work" this time (unlike iDisk).

When I factor in the fact that iCloud requires me to update all my CPU's to 10.7 - if I want them to synch, when I have certain boxes for various reasons that I have "left behind" because of certain programs that I want to run that were never updated, PLUS - the very major oversight (in my opinion) that Back to My Mac under "iCloud" no longer recognizes your time capsule and Airport Extreme attached disks -- and I am becoming more and more irritated at all this "progress" each day.

How on Earth can Apple roll out something that takes away all this functionality, requires us to spend all this money on all these updates, while at the same time marooning a lot of perfectly good computers that are still working hard for their owners (I'm thinking of a couple of G5 iMacs that we still run in our office), and call it - apparently with no irony intended -- PROGRESS?

I'm still waiting until I can use iCloud w/o having to purchase Apple's unnecessary apps as part of some transparent, childish scheme to increase the sale of said apps. Til then, I'm on Dropbox.

I have not been able to get Ipad epages, numbers or keynote to synch in cloud to other IOS5 devices. Both my IPAD and 4s are on iOS5. All on buttons are properly position in ICloud on my Ipad and I have turned on the specific apps to the on position to use ICloud . Yet when I use any iWork app it does not synch with my 4s. I then check the on/off button and find the button off on the app I was working on. How do I make this work the way it was advertised?

I have Lion on my iMac, the iOs version of iWork, and iWork 09. No "Mobile Documents" folder in ~Library.

Ummm, I don't think that this works as intended. Although the difficulty of editing on your Mac once you place a document in the Cloud was mentioned, it seems as if when you edit an iCloud document on your Mac that the edits aren't reflected in iCloud. I see the future potential, but for now, DropBox is still much easier to work with.

Well THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I followed these instructions, found the folder, made an alias on my desktop, even called it icloudsync. Yes I loaded up a pages doc and yes it did copy it over to all my iOS devices and at the same time deleted all my keynotes, pages and numbers files before my very eyes. As I link to iCloud it then deleted all these files - six months of work from all devices and iCloud it self! Not so bloody impressed any more! I still have the library folder but cannot find a way to get this back onto iCloud or open it up in pages or numbers etc. Thanks A lot :(( Note to self - make sure I do not following any advice from MacWorld!

6 months of work and you don't make a single backup?

it's your own fault. If you mess with documents you need, make sure you have a backup on a separate thing, like an external HD or USB stick. Or uploaded on another online service like dropbox.

This is a major failure for iCloud. I work on docs in Pages on my MacBook at home. When I'm on the road I want to edit those docs on my iPad. I don't want to create stuff on the iPad then edit on an iPhone.
Useless.

Thank you! Interesting and very helpful. it works perfectly for me. now, i have to decide if i am comfortable making the leap and deleting all my documents in the "documents" folder as i am getting tight on space and this duplicates all the files unless i delete everything i move to the mobile docs folder.

Apple all the might in the world - dedicated apps, iCloud and it's useless - give me Sugarsync - easy simple piece of cake.

Lion - what a cluster F, that is for your mouse for starters Oh and it no longer supports are Offcie 97 - only Apple's mess and lack of synchronisation. They're going downhill fast. Didn't they give it to a few Joe public to run first???

I'm pretty sure this functionality is planned in the near future. Take a look at http://www.apple.com...ud/coming-soon/ and http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/ (Documents in the Cloud). The way I understand it, http://www.iWork.com is a public beta test for the basic "Documents in the Cloud" functionality. The iWork.com beta ends in July because that is when Mac OS X Mountain Lion comes out, with integrated "Cloud" support for Documents.
