As far as backups and cloning to an external drive, I'm surprised you didn't mention Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC). This software is so easy to use and having a cloned hard drive located off site or in a fireproof safe is the way to go and CCC has been backing Mac users up for years.
I wouldn't trust anything to do the job, no kidding!

When you use a drive on an Air Extreme. If you had more music/photos to the shared drives the different iTunes linked to it don't get updated automatically. Is there a way to make the itunes update itself on startup each time so the import the new songs on the shared drive ?

I highly recommend OpenDNS to complement this setup. It's a free service that allows you to select categories of web content to allow or disallow. I've used it to turn off gambling, pornography, and hacker websites for our church and home wireless routers. Very easy to configure, and once configured it's pretty much set it and forget it.

The time limit feature is great, since it gives the kids the ability to ration their own time during the day, without parents having to pester them to "go do your homework" or whatever. Unfortunately, though, there's currently no way for all Macs on the network to share the time limit, so the kids just leave one computer and hop on another. I hope Apple will address this.

That's all nice and well and agreed unless you need to keep some vintage machines in the loop. Everybody knows that syncing macs is going south while the blessings of The Cloud are to be ˜enjoyed˜ exclusively by the dessert lions. Nobody can imagine work without DropboX. What do you know when your best hopes are up with 3rd party virtualizers? Back to work with Apple's rusty VNC.

You know that CCC is just a pretty face on rsync, right ?
Useful, to be sure, but you can do the same backuping from the command line, even scheduling it.

Do NOT put an iPhoto library on a network drive, or try to access the library through the network in any way other than the share option in the iPhoto application. You are only asking for problems.

I hope you're providing these people with tech support when they follow your instructions and corrupt their iPhoto library.
