Your info about iTunes is slightly incorrect. You say that there is no option in iTunes for listening to music from another account on the same computer. Which is wrong. You can go to preferences and select to share your library or even just select playlists with other accounts on that computer.

The caveats are that the master iTunes must be turned on for the library to be visible and it is basically read only (other users can listen, can create their own playlists but they can't delete tracks, adjust metadata, add songs to the master library etc)

Maybe this has been in the lates iPhoto, but when I set up a shared library I had to do it on a disk image. The problem was that every time iPhoto started up, it would change the owner and permissions on the library files so that other users couldn't access them.

Ummm.... Chris. How about addressing the OTHER problem: what is possible/probable/problematic/impossible to share when there are three Macs in the house that are used by three people, who ALL have their own Apple ID?

...or the issue of iOS. Our kids love our iPad, but iOS is woefully short on parental controls.

In iTunes: followed the instructions, changed permissions for the non-admin user, so far so good. How do I restore my playlists?

i have used iphoto as you mention in this article to share which works great. I went to setup itunes to share as well, what about syncing iphones with different apps, how do i get around that with sharing the same library?

As iPhoto and Aperture share the same library, how do I ensure Aperture does not lose the library when I move it to a shared folder?
