I am trying to encode the content of a DVD with wide-screen content to an MP4 file using the H.264 codec. What video frame size should I choose for optimal quality and minimal file size, 720 x 404 or 856 x 480? Or, if there is a way to do it, should I choose 720 x 480 with a 120:101 non-square aspect ratio pixel?

The software I would use would be MPEG Streamclip, exporting with QuickTime 7 Pro.
