Adobe's surprised that they need to focus on digital media and marketing? That's what their business is and has been. The purchase of Macromedia for Flash was all about digital marketing. They just keep picking the wrong direction, and doing it sloppily. Maybe they've got it this time. Past decisions wouldn't support that theory, but maybe they do.

More of the story from the BBC suggested that Adobe will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices and instead focus on HTML5 technology and its own AIR product. As many have predicted, it seems that Flash playing mobile devices will become legacy. Good.

The digital marketing they are referring to is at the "marketing strategy, management and analytics" level, a layer of abstraction above content creation. Their work with the omniture suite of tools is impressive, and the minimum buy-in is around $20,000, so they think there's more money to be made there.
Adobe Connect was pretty good, but it's not price-competitive with GotoMeeting and other solutions.

I'm surprised that the announcement that Adobe is reducing its focus on Mobile Flash to instead develop tools for HTML5 isn't part of this article. Or is that still just a rumor. Many online sites are reporting it as a fact.

Adobe just confirmed it on their blog.

The other rumor is that Microsoft is going to kill Silverlight for the same reason, to focus on HTML5. This is a good day for web standards.

It'll be great if this means InDesign works seamlessly with Amazon's new ebook format. Book sales are moving to ebooks and Amazon has about 70% of that market.
The Seattle offices of the two companies are about a ten minute drive apart. They should work together to give ID a terrific Kindle export capability.
