I would love to replace all of my old (low bit rate, long-ago cd-ripped) songs, but won't these new re-downloaded songs disappear if I ever stop subscribing to iTunes Match?

That is to say, I was under the impression that the matched songs were mine as long as I stayed subscribed to iTunes Match.

Of course, I would love to be proven wrong!

Excellent procedure. Thanks!

No. Once you download them to your device, they will never "disappear" – they're yours the same as the files they replaced.

Awesome news! Thank you so much for the clarification, JMHammer.

What about the date added info? I like to have my most recently added songs at the top of my library. I don't want songs I downloaded years ago to show up at the top after I do this. Will the date added be reset to the date its downloaded from the cloud?

Wouldn't these songs then face certain restrictions like other iTunes songs? Like only a certain number of authorizations? If I can't do what I want with the music then I'll probably just stick with my current copies and not sign up.

I have a lot of false matches, including music that was matched by title only (the artist field was blank) and Japanese music that's not available in the US iTunes Store. Not sure how or why that music came up in the smart playlist. So be careful before deleting the music--you might not be able to get it back.

Um, you know that iTunes music has been DRM-free for almost 3 years now, right? (see http://www.apple.com...unes-Store.html )

I have my settings on my iPhone to download music at 128 kbs in order to save space. Does that mean then that if I use Match I will have less space for music because Match will download and store it on my phone at 256 kbs? I understand I will have access to my whole library in the cloud but there will be less actual songs on my iPhone. Is that correct and is that really a concern I should have?

I thought I read in an article yesterday they can still only be synced to 10-devices (via iTunes) using the same playlist. The workaround is to just put them in a different playlist.

I don't see how they could enforce that. The tracks aren't wrapped with any code anymore so you don't have to authorize machines to play them.

When you delete songs like this, does this affect playlists that had the songs? Not the smart list just created, but all the other lists? Or will the tracks stay there after they're deleted, then re-downloaded?

I want to replace all of them, period. Even the ones I ripped at 256k myself. I don't know why, but tracks bought from the iTunes store sound a tiny bit better than the ones I rip myself at 256k.

So just set the bit rate in the smart play list above 256?

How are you able to add the 'Any of the following is true' field? I can't figure it out!
