I have and iHome iW1 and love it. Wonderful sound, rechargeable, airplay compatible, elegant controls. I think this product should be mentioned as it is a great Airplay device.

Agreed. A far better comparison would also include USB 3.0 and SATA 3 speeds. Also, not discussed is any potential for Daisy Chain impact on Thunderbolt connection, e.g. I discussed with Apple the fact that video and data can share Thunderbolt links. Apple confirmed that there is a fixed size to the pipeline, so as Video demands increase, the pipeline for data gets smaller and "could" change performance. Obviously the Thunderbolt pipeline is designed large enough to handle both, but there are other (and as you indicate) less expensive higher speed solutions other than FW800 (good as that is).
