These awards are for hardware and Mac software. We issue separate awards for iOS apps. Stay tuned.

At the moment, the article reads as follows:

Quote

"With a new dual-core A5 processor and improved graphics, the iPad 2 is noticeably faster
than its successor."

Goodness, I hope not! :-o

Jam, Jambox and Juice Pack make the list...Apple releases its fastest Mac ever, and nary a mention.

I'm not sure iOS 5 and Inkling qualify as Mac software.

Picky, picky, picky. OK, we also honor technologies. The Eddys, very specifically, are not about iOS apps.

Huh? You mean "predecessor."

PrintTopia? Really?? It rarely works and all it does is route select stuff (mostly photos) through your home computer IF IT IS ON and connected to your printer -- completely worthless -- would be using my home computer to do that if it is turned on, not my iPad...

I'll take your word for it that apps aren't eligible for Eddys, but then I'm confused by Dan Miller's description of Eddy-winner Inkling 2 (emphasis mine):

"But one app shows you what reading on the iPad should be like. Inkling licenses textbooks from traditional publishers then adapts the content for the iPad."

Many of us in the office have been using it for a year; this is the first report I've heard that it "rarely works."

It does quite a bit more than that:

Thanks for taking my word for it. Explore what Inkling does and you see it's more a technology/publishing system that happens to have an iPad front end.

I read macworld.com almost daily, yet this and summer gems are the two features that consistently bubble new stuff to the top of my limited attention span. Kudos to a great list. Also, are you going to publish (or did I miss) the runners-up list?

"Thunderbolt allows you to use Thunderbolt displays, RAID arrays, and other devices with the MacBook Air. You can also use FireWire, USB 3.0, and eSATA devices if you have the proper adapter."

Where are the proper adapters? I don't know of any Thunderbolt adapter that connects to Firewire, USB 3.0, or eSata. OWC sure isn't offering any for sale.

About the only things you can find are overpriced RAID drives (oooh, really portable), 1 Apple glossy-screen display (very portable!), and maybe a LaCie external drive. Oh yes, don't forget the required $49 Apple cable.

For something that has been out for more than a year, there really isn't much out there. Like all the other display connectors Apple has foisted on us through the years, Thunderbolt will be replaced by something "newer, faster" in 18 months.
