My feelings are decidedly mixed about Apple this year. Yes, I love my 4S, my iPad 2, my MacBook Air, etc etc, but I'm really, really disappointed that Apple lost all interest in supporting Web design/management software. It's especially disappointing since Jobs so strongly spoke out for the future of HTML5 over the past couple of years. That it no longer will develop iWeb, and that iCloud lacks all support for hosting, is a hard pill to swallow. Up to this point I believed that Apple could do no wrong, strategically, but it's lack of interest in this key area of information technology is a big mistake, in my view. I can only hope that it will introduce some killer HTML5 development app some time in the future. It's capriciousness in this area does make professionals in other creative fields take pause--can we rely on Apple's ongoing support for its pro apps in the future? Aperture? Final Cut? Logic?
And, of course, it's impossible to talk about Apple's year without mentioning the loss of Jobs, an event that was devastating for anyone who has invested one's heart in the company.
