I guess I don't see the advantage to having multiple icons in the Dock for multiple accounts when I can combine everything as one-stop viewing in the Mail application. Although I can see some uses for Fluid in other circumstances, though.

Some people prefer the Gmail web application to Mail.app or any other desktop email application so using Fluid with Gmail makes sense to them.

How does Fluid handle links that take you out of Gmail (or other sites)? If I click a link sent to me in an email, will it open in Fluid or will it open in my default browser? If it'll open in Fluid is there at least a contextual menu option like "Open link in default browser?"

I'm mainly interested in tools like Fluid privacy and account separation reasons so the free version is pointless to me. The site doesn't mention other content, does each Fluid app, paid or not, have its own cache, local storage, etc.? Can you keep plugins like Flash from loading in Fluid?

I used Fluid to create a standalone Pandora App. Clicking an outside link in Fluid will open the link in your default browser. Don't know about the other questions.

You can dictate whether Fluid should send those links to your default browser or open them in tabs.

ClickToFlash and other Safari plug-ins do work within Fluid. Extensions do not.

For those who prefer Gecko to WebKit, check out Prism.

Quick comment, if your gmail is set to any set to any, other language than English, the dock notifications won't work with Fluid.

The free Google Notifier lives in your Menu Bar and displays unread message counts too.

I also have a Fluid Facebook app that allows me to limit FB's following my every move. When I want to open a link I find in FB I copy the link & open it in another browser. Because I'm not logged into FB there & I've cleaned out all FB stuff the sites I visit aren't tracking me either. Not perfect but it's really not that much of a hassle.

Prism is dead - discontinued and running on an old version of Gecko, so is WebRunner (isn't even available for DL anymore). Chromeless hasn't had an update in about 7 months. I've given up on these guys...

For some reason, Fluid no longer works right in Lion for me. It was great in Snow Leopard, but when I try to use it with Gmail or GReader now, it just prompts me to log into my account, and then switches back to the regular browser window, where it prompts me to log in again and then goes to the site, though not in the "App". I do use Chrome as my default browser, so perhaps that is the problem. It would be great if that could be fixed, though.

That started happening because google switched their accounts from "accounts.google.com" to "google.com/accounts"

To fix, go into fluid >> preferences >> Whitelist preferences and allow the following
*google.com*
*www.gmail.com*
*gmail.com*
