The Flip camcorders appear as thumbrives under OS X. Just open it up, find the folder with the videos, and drag them wherever you want. After that, edit and burn with whatever you like.

Yep, that pretty well restates what I said in the last paragraph.

Related but different problem - when I plug my Flip camera into either the iMac or MacBook Pro, the flip camera's screen indicates that the camera is in USB drive mode, however the camera does not mount, the camera does not appear in Disk Utility, and worse still, all other USB devices attached to the computer - mouse, keyboard - start behaving erratically if at all.

Have not had the time to diagnose the problem further last night when this behavior started, and won't be able to get to it after work tonight, but couldn't resist posting this here with the timing of this article. Has anyone come across this issue? Might there be another way to get the existing files off the camera?

If it's been awhile since you've used the camera it could take 20 minutes or so for it to gain enough charge to finally mount on your Mac. Have you waited it out?

I've actually been unable to get my FlipShare software to work since I upgraded to Lion, so I was surprised to read in this article that it's supposed to be continually updated through 2013. I even followed the link, where it says under "system requirements" that it works with Leopard, but nothing about Lion. Have you been able to make it work under Lion?

As you note, there are other ways to edit Flip videos than FlipShare, but I liked how easy FlipShare was to use, and would love to find out that its post-Lion failure is a fixable problem.

The latest version, available from the Flip site, works on my MacBook Pro running Lion.
