Since when did MacWorld become a camera site? Just because computers can edit photos? If that's the direction you want to go, you should start to cover other stuff that interacts with Macs/iDevices. How about car reviews? Most cars have some iDevice integration today. How about house automation?

Tim,
Many thanks for giving the sensor size in millimeters. Hearing a new camera has a 1/2.3 sensor means nothing.
Four-thirds size is the absolute minimum I consider for a quality sensor to the work I do.

With the risk of getting cat calls of being pedantic - would you know the individual pixel size in microns?
This effects true dynamic range and color as well as enlargement quality. Thanks.

Content creators are a large part of the Mac user base. Macworld covers the tools used by content creators, in addition to other Mac-related topics. For many people, cameras are a tool used to create content.

FYI, Cnet does review cars based on tech. So if you're interested in a car review, go over there.

I appreciate the reply. I was bitching because there are so many sites talking about this camera already. And wouldn't you say more people are interested in cars/iDevice integration than expensive cameras? Why would I go to cnet? I visit MacWorld because I wanted to know how these things work with Macs.

Lighten up. It's a good review of a camera that integrates with Macs. If you don't like camera reviews a simple solution is . . . don't read them.

A retro design that seems to draw good attention. Why do we (technology field as a whole) spend so much time/money on changing form factors and trying to come up with new ones? Lots of them are just plain for the sake of change (and made it worse). In the end consumer got fed up and ask for retro (essentially sth that had proven to work). Mac/ipod was an example too. I guess I can only dream having a modern Mac in the form factor of the G4 sunflower.

The Olympus OM line has a great reputation, let's hope Olympus can honor that reputation and isn't just checking a list of boxes that have no bearing on the performance and handling of the camera. As an owner of 2 OM-4T film bodies and a range of fast zuiko glass, this has me intrigued from the get go. If this "OM" camera handles as nicely as the original film OM series I might actually make the jump to a digital slr. Also, for the person who thinks there are too many camera reviews here... we're currently in the camera "season" which sees most manufacturers updating their lines, you can expect an increase in camera coverage around this time every year. Best way to avoid reading about cameras is to avoid reading about cameras, eh?

I did make it clear I was bitching, didn't I. :)

I have no problems with camera reviews. I read plenty of them. I am also in the market for a new m43 camera (I have a GF1). But this is just yet another repackaged press release, and a late one at that.

Finally, MacWorld is reviewing decent cameras instead of just crappy point and shoots or low end cheapo SLRs.

Macworld has discussed electronics of almost all types from day one of its paper and ink magazine; so this is hardly anything new.

I believe that's closing your mind to newer technologies. While I'm personally a fan of this new body--despite the apparently tiny sensor--it's because of its heritage from the OM all-metal bodied SLRs of which I still own (and occasionally use) an OM-2 I purchased back in '77. While Nikon and Canon may be competing for top brand, I have to admit that Olympus has been one of the most reliable brands I've ever used. Even with one of my telephoto zoom lenses grinding when I dropped the camera off a horse, the camera still works fine and the lens still takes good pictures. I'm happy to see Olympus coming back into the dSLR market.
