It'd be great if Messages notification allowed you to choose whose messages gave you notification much like Google Voice allows to to redirect calls based on the caller. Messages from some people matter more than those from others. Turning notification on for the former shouldn't get you alerts from the latter.

I'm assuming that these notifications are interactive, as in iOS? Having iChat -- er, Messages -- notifications that are clickable and take me directly to the IM in Messages would be a great improvement.

I know they talk about the trackpad for two-finger swiping, but what about the Magic Mouse? Will it behave that way with the Magic Mouse as well?

Does an app need to be open to post notifications? I'd rather not keep Mail.app open 24/7

What if you have safari open in full-screen mode?
Two-finger swiping is already used there for going to the previous or next page...

I was sort if wondering this. I keep mail open always on my desktop. Having Notifications alert me to new mail would be much simpler. In iOS the Mail app isn't running. Perhaps the new features in Mail settings will make this possible.

Is there any way to build in notifications for websites? For instance I don't want to have to download the Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin Mac apps to get notifications. Too much trouble. So unless Apple rolls out truly universal apps that include Mac, iPad, and iPhone we'll have this convoluted mess.

Not entirely true. In iOS, Mail.app, Messages.app, et al, are always running.

It still works, in order to pull out notification center you have to swipe from the edge of the trackpad, for me it works when i begin to slide two fingers from the aluminum around the trackpad into the middle.

No. They aren't. iOS has a constant open connection to receive push for all apps, and those apps are not always open.

It does seem that you have to have your application open to receive notifications on your screen, I had my mail closed and sent my self 2 emails neither of which came in on my notification center i waited 10 mins then opened my mail and they were there then the opened up in my notification center. This seems pointless and will jut waist battery for other applications that use more power then mail also then what is the point i might as well just open the app.

Downloaded M-L yesterday and so far it looks good! I use Outlook for email, calendars, etc. I was trying to include Outlook in the notifications but was not able to do so.

Is it possible to add third parties to this?
