Great information, but I still have a question that remains unanswered: Would a wi-fi-only model work with my existing Verizon 4G LTE hotspot device (Novi Mifi, or whatever the thing is called)? And if so, would I get 4G speeds? I would think that it would, since my MacBook works with it. Thanks!

Here's a suggestion for a "what you need to know" article: giving my older iPad to a family member. How do I get the files into iTunes on her machine, so that she can use it instead of me having to do all the syncing? Will the apps transfer?

and, in correlation, what do I need to do to sync all the stuff from my old iPad to my new one? Will they continue to run without trouble? Any gotcha's?

(I already got my UPS tracking number on the i3, and it will be here the 16th.) My wife can't wait, since she's been lusting after the (old) iPad for a while now...

The iPad + 4G models have every bit as much of a full-time network connection as an iPhone. Likewise, the iPad with Wi-Fi only compares to an iPhone with cellular data optionally turned off.

So why no Siri?

Any indication if the voice dictation requires a connection? Or if it's client side?

If you connect to the Internet via wifi through a cable, satellite, dial up or what ever the speed you use from the iPad wifi to the device with the internet connection device will be the wifi speed. The speed that the Internet device connected to the Internet with be the speed of that Internet connection. So yes if you use a 4G what ever to connect to the Internet then that is the internet connection speed. If your wifi speed was very slow for some reason then that would be a limiting speed factor, but it is likely to be faster than the internet connection speed anyway.

FYI, my pre-order confirmation lists the new iPad as "iPad (3rd Generation)". Seems that Apple has decided to follow their iPod version-designation protocol.

It would be interesting to find out if Siri isn't included because it is still in "Beta" for the iPhone 4S, because Apple thinks it isn't useful or won't work well on a iPad or purely for sales and marketing of the iPhone 4S vs the iPad. My bet is the official line will be because Apple doesn't think it would work well on an iPad because it has a lesser microphone.

"There’s no Siri in the new iPad, likely because Siri requires an always-on Internet connection and, unlike with an iPhone, that’s not guaranteed with an iPad. However, the dictation features have made the move."

I'm afraid that doesn't add up. Dictation also requires an Internet connection to work. If there's a reason they didn't put Siri into the new iPad, that wasn't it.

I would be very interested to know what the speed test results are comparing the iPad 2 and iPad 'new', especially with the graphics. The A5X has 2x the graphics power of the A5, but considering the Retina Display has 4x the number of pixels, does that potentially mean the new iPad is half the graphics speed of the iPad 2?

If Apple had dropped the iPad 2's price to $299, they could have eliminated the Kindle Fire's "All the content, half the price" slogan.

In any case I'd like to thank Apple for giving us a $1 discount on each iPad model, making them "less than" a price which is an integer multiple of $10.

I'm sticking with my Clear hotspot for mobile Internet with my iPad 3. Very fast and unlimited data. When iPhone '5' comes out, I may give up my (now worthless) unlimited data plan to 'tether' to it.

But if I do that, I'll be dumping AT&Thieves for Verizon.

I dumped Verizon theives for AT&T thieves. The only difference: ATT tells you they're going to steal from you. Then they do. Verizon doesn't tell you.

I have the iPhone 4S, love Siri, but hesitate to use it without wifi because it'd eat up my 300 MB data plan on AT&T...I think the main reason our wonderful personal assistant isn't making her way onto "The New iPad" is because she's still rocking the Beta stage...Once the "Beta" sticker is removed, I defiantly think this great, next-generation technology will get it's time in the spotlight on future Macs, iPads, iPods, and of corse, iPhones, becoming more and more easier to use!

:) i Love You, Siri<3
