I'd welcome information about restoring old Mail messages. Unlike simple documents from Pages or TextEdit or other programs that just create single, identifiable files, Mail messages are buried inside complex files and I haven't figured out how to find and extract them.

Time Machine can restore old mail messages. Start by having Mail as the active application. Then Enter Time Machine from the toolbar icon.

Then WAIT and WAIT. It takes a while for Time Machine to load in all of the stored messages. Once this is done, you can go to any date in time machine, click on a message, and restore it.

BTW, the same works for Contacts (fka Address Book). I don't use Calendar, but it might work there as well.

I'd like to know how to restore apps, such as Safari. I was having issues with Auto-Fill not working correctly. In my trial and errors, I ended up deleting the whole keychain, which also deleted related items in Keychain Access.

Every time I tried to restore Safari, I was told it wasn't allowed.

I ended up doing a full system restore to get back Safari preferences/settings and keychain.

Has Auto-Fill ever worked for you? Safari's AF has never worked for me, never! Well maybe 1 out a 100 times no exageration. I have never understood how all oter AF tools would would work so well and Safari's nada, and this is going back from the first day they implimented it. If it works for others please let me know? If you know how I can fix it please let me know. One good thing is I just did a compleat clean install of ML, I thought it was about time for a clean install so there's a start.

I recently bought a new MacBook Air, and needed to use the migration assistant to transfer my stuff from my MacBook Pro.
After several attempts (every one freezing at "less than one minute left"), I finally had to do this time consuming task by hand. - Tech support was no help at all! - Bummer!!

It's always worked for me since my first MacBook running Leopard, but I will say it doesn't work nearly as good as it used to under Mountain Lion.

Something happened to my Calendar. I had notes there for the past several months that I need! When I tried to restore it from Time Machine, it said that I couldn't! Also, there is something there about it being a "Birthday" calendar? Help! Thank you.

I finally figured out the problem after all these years. My password keychain was corrupted. Deleted it and now I works.

My question would be how to restore time machine backup to windows. I would be completely screwed if all I have is a time machine backup with no macs around and there's no way to restore them.

Yea, it's great if your sparsebundle doesn't corrupt every 6 months causing you to wipe the time capsule. Time capsule. I hate you.
