One thing you might want to investigate: If you extend your network with an Airport Express or an Airport Extreme, the new Apple TV OS has a bug that causes it to lose connection.
The details: I have an Airport Extreme as my router and I have an Airport Express and another Airport Extreme close to both of my TVs acting as network extenders. I have the previous generation Apple TV (720p black box) and a new Apple TV (1080p black box). Both Apple TVs have been updated to the latest OS.
We rather immediately started getting a message about "lost connection" when viewing a Netflix stream. I figured at first it was a Netflix problem. (We have a 30 Mbps down connection.) Then we saw the same problem just streaming over our internal network from a computer running iTunes. Both Apple TVs demonstrated the same problem routinely. Rebooting would fix the problem, sometimes for just a few minutes and something for half a day.
Then I had a thought and disconnected the devices extending the network. My main Airport Extreme router still reaches the Apple TVs with its signal. Neither Apple TV has had a connection problem since then.
So I'm pretty convinced this is a bug in the latest OS (and not hardware because my older Apple TV worked just fine in this setup before the OS update). I submitted a bug report to Apple, but you guys might want to do some testing and get a good article out of it. And maybe that would spur Apple into getting a fix out faster... :-)

As commented in the other forum, Troubleshooting your AppleTV, I can confirm the same bug, but only with breaking the Home Sharing link when an Apple Express is active to extend the network. I didn't have network problems for streaming "cloud" content, only when trying to stream content from the Mac via Home Sharing. The ATV still has an internet connection, but the Home Sharing link is lost and iTunes needs to be re-launched, only to break again. The Home Sharing link remains intact and video plays flawlessly when the Apple Express is unplugged forcing the ATV to connect to the main station.

I definitely saw the same thing happen when streaming NetFlix. My family ran into this repeatedly until I unplugged the network extension.
