Can anyone please tell me if it is at all possible to restore deleted photos on the iPhone that hadn't been synced yet? There are websites that suggest they have programs that can do it but none can. Is there a 'trash can' on the iPhone that I can't seem to find where my photos might be? If not it's a good idea to implement one to account for human error maybe.... slightly worried......

A couple of possibilities I can think of. The better bet: If you have iCloud enabled, they may be there.
When you say they hadn't been synched yet, do you mean you hadn't synched the phone at all, or just that you hadn't gotten the pictures off and into iPhoto or whatever?

First, get a professional photo recovey for iPhone, if you don't have a choice, why not try Wondershare Data Recovery for iTunes? A data recovery program allows you to recover deleted photo from your iPhone from the previous backup files on iTunes, and works perfectly with iPhone 4, 4S, iPad 1 & 2, iPod Touch 4 and their previous versions. Besides photos, it also can help to find back your previous SMSes, Contacts, Notes and Calendar.

Unfortunately Apple never thought about including a trash can in iOS. Age old thing we're all used to, even on the Mac, but of course in iOS they figured that wasn't needed in their infinite wisdom.
If you have access to a PC there is a chance that it can be done, as the iPhone will be available as an external storage drive to the OS; meaning that data (or even dedicated photo) recovery tools, one should be able to get to the file system and give you file browsing access or will show you a list of available images.
On the Mac side of things, everything I've heard about revolves around finding deleted photos in the iPhone backups in iTunes. Which you do not have. Haven't heard that direct recovery from the iPhone is available for OS X.
