In the meanwhile, you can try MapQuest for Mobile, by AOL. It provides spoken and textual turn-by-turn directions. And it's completely free. I'm sure the Garmin and other top-end (and pricey) GPS apps are better, but MapQuest has been all I've needed.

If only you could tell Siri to use Mapquest!

My mom's house gets shown about a mile up the road with "United States" in the Search Bar (she's in rural WA State) and one of my attorneys has his office showing up about one-half a mile away (in The 'Couv WA). Deleting "United States" moves the Maps pin to the correct location. One of my clients, in Hood River OR, gets the "No Results Found" message - deleting "United States" gets the Maps app to find the address immediately.
Yeah, I notified Apple a couple of times a year or so ago through their Developer's portal. No reply from Apple.

I've found that if I use Maps before leaving home (i.e.: while still online) and zoom in on the neighborhoods where I plan to travel that day, the detail will be cached and remain available even when there's no data connection. I'm sure there must be a limit to how much data it will save though.

I take screen shots, either on the iPad itself, or on my computer screen and then save them to dropbox.

From the iPhone 5.1 user manual:
See the Google Street View of a location: Tap on the blue location pin head and the pop-up will have an Orange Icon on the left inside of the box, tap on it and maps opens into street view. Flick left or right to pan through the 360° panoramic view (the inset shows your current view). Tap an arrow to move down the street. To return to map view, tap the map inset in the lower-right corner.

Sorry for the late reply. To the best of my knowledge, you can't email the instructions directly from Maps. What I would do is show the directions as a List, then do screen shots (sleep and Home buttons at the same time) until you have all of the instructions captured. Then go to Photos and "share" the pictures with the instructions. Clumsy and roundabout, but it works.
