In the demo at the Apple Event a couple weeks ago, the guy demonstrated an "auto-straighten" feature which automatically detected the horizon in a photo and straightened the photo without you having to tilt your phone or use the dial.

How do we access the auto-straighten feature? I can't find it on my iPhoto for my iPhone.

This article was just what I was looking for! I have the new iPad with iPhoto and while I was starting to learn some of the functions, I find it easier to follow along and get the basics down first. Thank You Macworld!

Nice article!
I'd sure appreciate another article comparing this to Nik's Snapseed for features as well as some of the other popular iOS apps. I know there was a recent article comparing to Photoshop for iPad but in this case more comparators would be better IMHO.

It's so convenient for me to edit photos in iPhoto with Mac, because i'm a novice for such Mac apps.

After editing photos on an iPad with iPhoto for IOS, can they then be sent to iPhoto on a MAC - via iCloud?

Just use the crop tool and it comes up automatically. If it doesn't then use the crop tool and start twisting the photo with two fingers. That should bring it up as well.
