Deauthorizing computer that no longer is usable

I know you can deauthorize a computer prior to recycling it, but if your computer dies, as mine did, what is the best way to do this...

I see in the iTunes account page that you can 'deauthorize all' presumably I could then reauthorize my other devices.

Is this the best/only way?

Yes. You can do it once a year.
