"That might mean Android device owners just can’t figure out how to use their phones’ Wi-Fi." LOL

Wanna see a hardcore Android user freak? Just say the word "fragmentation" and run for cover.

I can third, fourth, and fifth this story.

We have apps on iOS (and have since day one)... they made hundreds of thousands of dollars...

the SAME apps on the android market made (seriously) less than 50.00...

Android people do NOT spend money.. in fact, go to any cell phone store, and ask about android vs. iphone, they will always say "most android apps are free, you have to pay for iphone apps).

We decided to just make our apps free on android for marketshare... but Android has barely made back the $25.00 developer enrollment fee...

Just means iPhone users are being throttled and they have to conserve their data plan. Android users have a much wider range of Unlimited data (Sprint, TMO etc.) No fears of throttling.

This article is clearly one-sided, but that's to be expected from someone inexperienced with Android who cherry picks out the stories that fit.

I'm surprised to see such blatant link-bating by Macworld. Why is success measured in portability from one platform to another? That is, why is it expected that the exact same apps will be available on both? There are many many apps that are on Android but not on iOS, and vice-versa. Suggesting that Android users are all sitting on their hands waiting for popular iOS apps to become available for them is silly.

I wonder if the fact that users can be more confident in the app quality from Apples stores than they can be from the Android store has any effect on this. Since anything can get into Android's store, you are more likely to run into a bad program, so I personally (an android user) prefere to use a free program than a paid for one, just cause if it is awful after I install it I don't mind deleting it. If I pay for one and it is bad (or not quite what I'm looking for) I'm stuck. :(

The other thought is, that maybe the culture of apple people - hip, up with the current tech, etc. are more likely to be willing to spend money... heck they had to pay $200+ for the phone in the first place. While I got my phone for $20. So clearly I'm not as likely to spend my money nearly as freely.

It's not just iOS. Third party apps for OSX are far and away better than Windows third party apps.

I think this is largely for the same reason--OSX users are willing to pay for the software they use.

An article written on www.macworld.com sides with iOS... Who'd of thunk it?!

Spend a month with a true Android device, then write an article with a non biased view.

And to note, I'm not a "Fanboy" of neither Android nor Apple, they both offer things the other doesn't. I own an Android phone, an iPad, and an Android tablet and love them all for various reasons. But articles written like this disgust me.

You open with a jab about GMail? Go back to your mac.com address.

What a pile of trash. The real reason this is occurring us because Apple had tons of market share before and now Android has not only caught up, it's surpassed it, so now app makers are starting to switch to where the users are.

I personally know at least 15 developers for iOS and none are switching to android, like the article said they can't make any money on android and that is a fact.

I orginally posted this link on the daily Macalope column today, but it is far more pertinent here. Especially true since this is specifically about the titled reference to Instagram.

http://www.cultofmac...-instagrammers/

The moderators would never allow me to accurately describe the behavior in that column. And I'm no prude!

You're right about the analogy of having to make ink for every printer. That's what API's are for. If PC's of 20+ years ago could do it, on several versions of DOS/Windows in the wild, then Android (or iOS) can too. In the end it comes down to hardware/software requirements, as with anything else.

Don't take this personally, because I have no idea which applications you publish. This is not a dig at you, it's a reverse dig for people who say something in the vein of...

"If your apps didn't suck, people would buy them". As we all know, if it were only that simple...

Need I remind you that (according to Apple fans) Android is for geeks? I think they know how to use WiFi.
