what really sucks is that menu hacks like FruitMenu aren't working in Lion so we have to resort to upping the recent items menu numbers to gain access to things from the Apple menu.

although recent items is set to none
when I open quicktime, pictures, texedit or word docs
at least 10 previous files open up at the same time
this is really confusing and annoying
why does mountain lion have the same bugs as the first versions of lion ...

Actually, this is not a bug. Mountain Lion (and Lion) are set up so that any files that were open when you quit the application will re-open when you run the application again. If you don't want it to do that, you have two choices:

1) close the document windows before you quit the application - then they should not reopen, or
2) Go into your System Preferences and select "General." In the second section of the window, check "Close windows when quitting an application."
