"BBEdit, of course, offers numerous features that aren’t available in TextWrangler; among them are Projects (for grouping related files and folders), Clippings, integrated source control, Automator support, and Text Factories for powerful text manipulation."

For clarity, TextWrangler can use text factories. It just can't create them.

Looks like TextWrangler 4 hasn't made its way to the Mac App Store yet .. still showing version 3.5.3.

Wait, does it or does it not support Automator?

TW/BBEdit is a fantastic editor. I wish it had just one more feature though: when you open a file for editing from a remote server, I wish it would check the file size and date, and compare it again when saving. That way, if someone else edited the file while I had it open, it would warn me and not blindly overwrite it. I've lost data a couple of times because of this. To be fair, no other text editor does this either, although Coda's developers seemed warm to the idea.

It's too bad that when you try to upgrade to TexWrangler 4.0, you get the following error message:

"The operation can't be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure "Locked" is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again."

I'm assuming that if you downloaded your earlier copy from the App Store, you can't upgrade by downloading 4.0 from Bare Bones and are stuck waiting for the upgrade to appear in the App Store.

Very happy with the 4.0 update. BBEdit and Text Wrangler have always been great. TW 4.0 is even greater now.

Delete the existing application instead of trying to overwrite it.

The timing of this is perfect! I've been using both a trial version of BBEdit and the free TW for a while now and was getting ready to buy BBEdit, as I was missing some of the features of that app in TW.
With this update I don't feel like I need the full BBEdit. Yes, there are still some extra nice stuff in BBEdit that aren't in TextWrangler, but for my basic needs, TextWrangler fits the bill quite nicely. Thanks Bare Bones!

And a pony, of course. Don't forget the pony...
