No Skype on WP7? Boom, MS buys Skype, now we have Skyp on WP7.
No Instagram on WP7 FB buys Instagram, expect Instagram on WP7 soon.
(Remember MS is one of the few shareholders of FB).

What does Facebook get for its billion smackers, anyway?
Just wait, all those photos of your kids --nay, every photo you've ever taken-- will suddenly appear on Facebook (probably along with your phone number and GPS location), without your permission or even advance knowledge. In the fine print, after the fact, you can "opt out". But with Facebook's track record, you can be assured that they will cheerfully violate your privacy at the first opportunity.

SmartMoney had a better reason - FB now gets all datapoints (including location) from 30 million people that it didn't have before.

I would've thought a hundred million was too much. A billion? Off the charts.

Question: why would having access to the where and the when of the picture taking be important to Facebook?

A lot of venture capitalists are going to be very happy! I wonder, how much profit does a company sign over to VC's?

this article did nothing to explain to me why facebook bought instagram. in fact, i thought it seemed a logical decision before reading the article, but now it makes no sense to me.

As Doc says, I'm even more confused now...

So the biggest reason that it sold was that they had no revenue and had to find someone to buy them? So, implying some level of desperation there, why a billion dollars? If that is the case, it seems that Facebook could have come along and offered a million dollars and Instagram would be having an office party...

As I finished reading article, these were my thoughts exactly. In fact I read the posts just to see if anyone else felt the same way!

A billion dollars for a company with no biz model, no profit and no employees, using off-the-shelf technology? Spin it any way you want, it HAS to be something else.
