A major e-book reader with this feature took FAR TOO LONG to come to market. Kudos, but it should have happened 2 years ago.

Ya mean, like the iPad which did happen 2 years ago? I know, different price points, but still the iPad is THE best reading experience I've had.

I don't think you necessarily need a light IN your e-book reader to read in the dark. Attachable e-book lights do pretty well, though you need to remember to turn them off when not in use because they can use up batteries (which cost about $5 a pair) quickly if left on.

The only e-book light I was found that really fit my Nook Simple Touch with or without a cover is the Mighty Bright clip-on. But, I kept a less handy one for reading regular hardcover books in bed. I wouldn't upgrade my Simple Touch just for the built-in light.

Well it's about freakin' time! The absence of an illuminated screen has been the key factor in why I haven't bought an eReader. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad, but it's simply too heavy for me to read in bed while trying to drift off to sleep. Plus, I shudder to think of toting along a $600 gizmo to a sandy, wind-blown beach where I'd be struggling to see the screen in bright daylight anyway. Gimme an under-$100 reader that's lightweight and self-illuminated and durable enough to coexist with my snorkel gear and you just might pry my eyes away from my iPad.
