Printopia works a treat. I have used it on many of my Client's computers.

Anybody make a hardware solution that doesn't involve buying a new printer? My elderly parents only need an iPad (some web surfing, facetime and email), but the want to print emails once in a while. I'd love to give them a hardware solution that would allow them to dump their PC and use their existing printer. Silly to have a 10 year old computer sitting there as a dumb print server, if I can help it.

I purchased an HP all in one printer (with built in wifi) at Best Buy for $60. It works perfectly with AirPrint. Couldn't be happier. No need for third party apps. I can print any time, anywhere within my house. BadaBing!!!!!

Print Central Pro, a $10 iOS app available in the App Store, is a better solution for printing. It will print to ANY network printer, whether Mac or Windows. I use it at work on our big network HP printers and Canon copier, and at home on an HP connected by CAT-5 to my Airport Extreme and to an Epson connected to my Mac via USB. You don't have to install anything on the computer end, just install on your iOS device and you're good to go.

The program seems to be well designed, however $20.00 really? Save you cash & just purchase a new printer. I know, I know but heres why. If you just wait until it's time for new toner (about $60.00 bucks) and then pay for this program ($20.00 bucks) you have now paid for a new current printer with "AirPrint"

Printopia is nice, I tried it. It cost $20, not so nice.

A little shareware utility by an outfit called "netputing.com" will do the same thing for a fraction of that cost. It will print to any printer running on your Mac from any iOS device. Simple, sweet, and a bargain to boot!

Why why why why why why isn't the fairly trivial software function of printing to any network printer a standard part of iOS?

Great suggestion... I downloaded 'AirPrint Activator' and had it running in 2 minutes from my iPhone 4S to ancient (but trusty) HP LaserJet 1012. I immediately sent a donation to the author I was so pleased!

Thanks for the tip!

By all accounts, this looks like a great product. But where/how can you get it? I've checked the Mac App store, with no results. I've checked the iPad and iPhone App store with no results. I've combed your articles and cannot find where or how to obtain this product.

Help, please.

Thank you.

The first paragraph of the story has a link that takes you directly to the software. You purchase it from Ecamm.

Printopia is FANTASTIC ! ! !

I have two iMacs, a new iPad, and an iPhone 4, on a wiFi network and it works great.

It is worth every penny it cost.

It's substantially more expensive than anything else, but the XPrintServer sounds like the thing you're talking about. Basically, you connect it to a network, and it makes all local printers AirPrint-compatible.
