Steply has an excellent community and an API for developers to integrate their network into the apps. It should be on the list

Not that it competes much in the social side of things, but I was amused that one of the features listed on the latest update to the Camera+ app was "Not owned by Facebook!"

I wonder how many people were posting all their Instagram pics to Facebook before Facebook bought Instagram. Honestly, social networks are overrated. I think people just need to feel like someone cares what they have to say.

The best way to replace Instagram is Camera+ or Hipstamatic or iphoto or a thousand other photo tweaking apps and post them to Twitter. Exactly the same thing.

Next an article on Postcards. I have used Postagram to send electronic and physical cards. Easy and less expensive than the Apple solution.

One app that seems to receive little press but is, IMHO, the best out there for post processing photos is PhotoForge. PhotoForge is what Photoshop mobile should have been. It has professional-level tools for tweaking photos as well as the more consumer level filter tricks. And it interfaces with a multitude of sites and services for saving/sharing your work.

I think the best replacement for Instagram has to be Tadaa. It works as a camera app, has all the filters (and more) that Instagram offers, plus it boasts a social network that is very similar to Twitter.
The app has photo challenges that you can submit images to, trending charts, featured charts, new users charts, and allows you to repost images from other users.

What else could you ask for?

“Our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people,” ... cough cough and also add to our facial recognition database... cough cough.

I've been using Via.Me for about a month now and it's wayyy better than Instagram and the other photo sharing apps. For starters, it lets you create and post filtered photos, videos, audio and text messages. Also, Via.Me has a killer online profile that none of the other photo sharing apps have. If you're looking to abandon Instagram, you should definitely use Via.Me.
