This is a great review, as I have been trying to find a good one since I heard of this "case" a couple of days ago. My question is this: I'm looking at a keyboard case of some sort for my iPad 2 and I've narrowed it down to the Clamcase and the Ultrathin. I already have a Keyfolio from Kensington but find the near-vertical angle to more problematic than anything else, although I like the ease in which I can take the iPad out for when I want to read in bed or on the couch. So given my aforementioned usage, coupled with the necessity for a good keyboard case whilst using my iPad on desks, tables, and sometimes the occasional lap in my home recliner, what would you suggest between the two cases? Thanks for your input.

The Clamcase is very laptop-like: It completely encloses your iPad and it lets you adjust the screen angle. This makes it more flexible in terms of lap use and adjusting the screen. You can also flip the keyboard around to the back to use the iPad as a tablet. The downside is that the Clamcase is bulky—it's considerably thicker and heavier.

It comes down to personal preference. I personally prefer the Ultrathin because it's quite a bit thinner and lighter, it's easier to quickly detach the iPad for tablet use, and the keys are a bit better. But I know people who swear by the Clamcase.

Logitech still shows it as a pre-order item. Any idea when it will ship?

The company said "April," so presumably sometime in the next week or so.

I preordered the first night I saw reviews on this, but nobody was saying when it would become available. Thanks for letting us know that they said April. Usually companies lift the embargo on reviews of their products about a week before availability so I assumed soon -- just glad for the confirmation.

Any idea what version of bluetooth it supports? WIth a 6-month battery life, I am guessing its Bluetooth 4.0 which has lower power consumption.

It's compatible with the iPad 2, which uses Bluetooth 2.1, so the keyboard likely uses 2.1, as well.

I'm going to recommend the Zaggfolio because it accomplishes what I need, is a very protective clamshell type case/keyboard combo, and it looks good. Although, this "Ultrathin" looks REALLY good! personally, I can't spend another 100 on a different one. Knottian, I found my Zaggfolio at a kiosk at a mall that had a demo that I could check out and test before buying. I don't think you can do that with the Ultrathin. Maybe Best Buy will have a demo of the Ultrathin after it's actually released.

I've owned a clamcase since they became available (waited for 7 months to be one of the first) and its superior to other options because of their hinge system. Not the slimiest or light weight winner but it's a rugged, versatile (hinge articulated 360deg) case allowing ease of use and security.

Thanks for the reply HiTechHoBo, my question for you in regards to the Clamcase is how easy is the removal of the iPad from the case? As stated, I like to read in bed and will often read in hand-held portrait position while waiting for appointments. Thanks again for the response.

I just want to second the post from almcdaniel. What back cover do you recommend for the Ultrathin, since the Smart Feather won't work?

Tipadoo, thanks for your response. I hadn't even given much thought to the Zaggfolio prior to your comment but I have since looked into it with greater detail. It may be a better solution for me than even the clamcase; I love how thin the Zaggfolio is compared to the latter. My two questions are: are you able to use the zaggfolio whilst on your lap, for example in a recliner, etc? Also, are there any brightness function keys on the keyboard? The second question is far less important but I was unable to find exactly what keys were on the function row. Thanks for your response.
