"[you can't] use it with any of Apple’s video-out cables,"

Apple's HDMI video/audio-out cable provides a pass-through Dock connector, so you could use this keyboard with it.

Unfortunately, the Digital AV Adapter's pass-through dock-connector port doesn't provide power, so the iKey30 doesn't work with it. I'll update the article to clarify.

“a major benefit of the iKey30’s wired connection is that you can use the keyboard in places where wireless connections are prohibited. For example, you can use it on a plane during a flight“

NOT on the flights I’ve been on in the past ten years. There isn’t a stewardess alive who would know the difference between an iPad in Airplane mode.

"connecting to your iPad via a 33-inch dock-connector cable"

That's a huge connector - no wonder most are Bluetooth

Ahem. It's a dock-connector cable that's 33 inches long.

Considering you're the third person to read it differently, I've moved "33-inch" to a different location in the article ;)

Let's face it, Bluetooth is sometimes quirky and can be a pain. Why not enjoy something dead simple.

Does it still disable the onscreen keyboard like Bluetooth does?

Most bluetooth keyboards work with iPhone and iPod touch as well. Given the connectors are just about the same, will this wired keyboard work on the iPhone or iPod Touch? Also. whatever happened to Apple's own wired keyboard for iPad? I had one with my first iPad and you could also insert an iPod Touch right into the cradle that was made for the iPad. The iPhone was a little too thick to fit in the cradle, though. This was great for the desktop, but unfortunately a bit impractical as a portable keyboard since the dock which the iPad or iPod sits in extends about three inches high--- a bit awkward for a portable keyboard.

It also works with the iPhone and iPod touch.

I believe Apple discontinued the Keyboard Dock.
