I don't really have a problem with a Mac-based company using Linux for their servers (or better yet, FreeBSD) - it's knowing that they'll actually provide support when you need it and won't you "it must be a Mac problem" even when the problem is at their end that's important.

You should remove DreamHost from this list. DH was a good host up to about six months ago, but has been extremely unreliable since. Sites hosted there are down multiple times each week. A quick check of the customer support area shows hundreds of DH customers very angry about the lack of service there. I was a DH customer for many years, but I left some months ago when it started falling apart.

Media Temple is another host to consider, although for just hosting one site it's pretty steep at $20. However, I host about 12 sites on there under one account, which averages out to be $1.67/site.

I've been using MacHighway for more than seven years, starting when they called themselves "Itsamac", for both my sites and those of clients. They have always had great service and support. Highly recommended

There is another problem with migrating from MobileMe, and that's the many users who do not have a domain name. Their URL address was web.me.com/username/site name. Those web sites can't easily migrate to a different web host using the same site name. There is a web host called NewMobileMe, designed for iWeb users to host their sites with or without a domain name. With no domain name the user's URL address is newmobileme.com/username/site name. The cost is $3.50 per month with a $10 startup fee, or $42 for annual hosting with no multi-year contract commitment .

One of the hardest pieces of information to find on the internet is reliable web host review information. Seems like virtually every host out there puts all kinds of review spam and "sponsored review" sites out there to dup people into selecting their service.

It's a highly commoditized industry and so you'll get pretty much the exact same service offerings from all the big providers, but there's very little reliable information out there as to which ones perform the best, have the best service, etc.

Do any of these hosts allow comments, counters, etc., from iWeb? If not, can you recommend a commenting service, widget, etc., that works well with iWeb and one of these hosts? I've been using js-kit, but their free accounts will be terminated in October of this year. Thanks.

I agree with ifrazier that DreamHost should NOT be on this list. They've had a lot of security breaches in the past few years with a lot of sites hacked, and they don't seem to be concerned enough to do anything about it. They also don't seem to provide much in the way of support, judging by reviews I've read.

One site I've found that seems to have *real* reviews from *real* users is http://webhostingjury.com/

I've become a very happy Hostgator customer in the past year, with my own site and a number of my clients hosted there. Support has been excellent - both via their live chat, and on the phone. Another host I've had long experience with is http://www.asmallorange.com - great support but a little more expensive if you've got a lot of storage/bandwidth needs.

No host can offer those features because Apple built those features specifically with iWeb's use on MobileMe in mind. For all intents and purposes, those are MobileMe features that will die with MobileMe. I WISH Apple would've continued to make iWeb for a world outside of MobileMe. I love my iWeb.

Shouldn't all the hosting companies who advertise in the print edition of MacWorld be "Mac Friendly"?

If not, why do you take their advertizing money?

Will we still be able to use iWeb to add to and make changes to our site??
What about web galleries? do any of the above suggestions offer that feature?

Does anyone have any experience with the following company? They claim to be "Mac OS X experts":

http://www.ragesw.com/webhosting.php

Hi,
I signed up with them on 06.July. My site still isn't running. I chose them also because they claim to be Mac experts. Support is done by email, It has taken them from 10 - 64 hours to reply to my emails, the last email I sent 4 days ago. I got a mail 7 hours ago telling me they had overseen my mail but they gave no answer. If you need a host with customer service, I cannot recommend them
