Elgato's bus-powered Thunderbolt SSD

Another overpriced Thunderbolt external drive lacking basic good design features.
Here is my wish list for an external Thunderbolt drive:
1. Dual user replaceable drives with hardware support for RAID 0 and 1, and an option to use SSD.
2. Bus powered
3. Two Thunderbolt ports and a USB 2 port.
4. A price that is less than 3x the cost of the bare drives (or 2X if they are SSDs)
Something like the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini, or the Newer Technology Guardian MAXimus mini with Thunderbolt would be ideal. Give me this and a new MacBook Pro with an Ivy Bridge processor and I'll give up my Mac Pro tower and never look back.

Who in their right mind would pay such terribly over the top prices for an external HDD?

In Apple's RDF, MB Air owners will pay since they have reasonably fast machines that yet are without USB 3, Firewire, eSATA, ExpressCard, or gigabit ethernet.

For goodness sake, will someone please just release an empty bus powered thunderbolt enclosure and I will stick my own drive in!

It's expensive, but I've got sample libraries which require a pretty fast drive, and I know people who have more demanding libraries. I guess to them it would be an option, or indeed to people that do intensive video editing, and that need an external drive (for which there are various reasons).
But indeed, the price is high, the extra cable just adds to that, and it takes away your display port, or you have to buy another gizmo...

Is this a trick question? OK, I'll take a stab at it. People who have more money than brains. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the correct answer. My two 1.5TB external portable drives cost less than the 120gb ssd. I can stream hd movies, run an OS, and store 3tb for almost $100.00 less.
