Awesome, thanks for this tip! This is especially useful when you want to show the Dock in a Fullscreen App - the Dock shows there now instantly, or without needing to drag the mouse "down" a long way.

Fantastic tip! Can't say I really noticed the delay, but it's much better without it.

Clearly there are a lot of people who like to be able to invoke the Dock instantly. Personally, I would like to be able to extend the delay at least another half second. There are times when I want to grab a window edge, or interact with some application feature located low on the screen when the Dock pops up too soon and gets in the way.

Hmmm... I'm also trying to figure out how to make the delay longer. I keep my dock on the left, also some of my desktop files are parked close to it. So I fly my cursor left and try to click on the file, and instead the dock pops open and I launch some software I don;t need.

If anyone can tell me how to extend the delay by - say - 666 milliseconds then I would be forever in your debt ... I'd put a bronze statue of you on my front lawn, and hold annual toga parties in your honor.

Same command; just change the value of the delay. It's measured in seconds and (as implied by the preceding argument) need not be an integer.

After the term <-float> replace zero with the numeral 1 for one second, 2 for two second delay, etc. Try .666 , sure.

defaults write com.apple.Dock autohide-delay -float 0 && killall Dock

All I ask from you in return for this information is that you give a thumbs up to our Miley Cyrus.

Awesome. Works like a dream. And a "thumbs up" for Miley Cyrus and making wishes come true.

Great tip. My collection of system tweaking terminal commands is coming along nicely.

You typed something wrong. Show us the command cut-and-pasted from the terminal window.
