I noticed that certain songs weren't playing in my playlists. After looking under Artist it seems that the songs are on the iPhone but are greyed out. They run the range of songs imported from CD, converted to MP3's, and songs downloaded directly from iTunes. They show up and play in iTunes, and on my iPod with no problems. I have looked online and this seems to be a common problem but there is no tried and true way of fixing it. I have tried several things short of restoring the iPhone and nothing has worked. Any ideas ?

No I have not joined iTunes Match. I was wondering if that might fix it but really had no need for it otherwise.
