Monitoring connections may be important to some people, but I'm more interested in some real usability features that would enhance the network.

Routers that are specifically designed for the "Cloud" should come with a USB print server that can work with tablets and smartphones.

I'd also like to see better integration with a local storage hard drive, also USB, that would work similar to DropBox but offer far more space.

I'd be willing to pay much more than $40 for a device that actually integrated these features to a small business or home network.

Some of the features you desire are limitations to the devices that connect to them, not the router itself. For example, Apple's own "Time Capsule" router has built in 2 or 3TB of storage and has a USB port for adding additional hard drives or printers. This works great for Macs for both storage and printing, but iPads require Airprint (not just a networked printer) and cannot natively read a hard drive. Even with the help of an App, with sandboxing, these features are very limited.

Great suggestions though!
