Hello folks. I'm new to this forum so I may get things slightly wrong, but hopefully you will understand me and be able to help. I am going prematurely grey...

I have Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. In Word (and PowerPoint but one thing at a time) I have written a family history. I have a sort-of index and I want to hyperlink from, say grandfather Joe to the section about Joe which are in the same document. In theory I should be able to do this but it is baffling me and the Microsoft Technical people. I spent an hour on the phone with one of their 'technical' people in the Philippines (!!) and they/she couldn't even help. The 'Help' section doesn't help, so I am coming to the forum - the real experts.

Thanks,
David

After all the questioning here and with Microsoft a friend has explained how to do it. Microsoft technical people please note.

Using the example above, first go to the place in the document where you want the hyperlink to go to - in this hypothetical case, the section about Joe. Then highlight the first word or two, go to the 'insert' menu > bookmark and type Joe (as your bookmark). Then go to the 'sort-of' index and highlight Grandfather Joe. Go to insert > hyperlink > document > Anchor and type in your bookmark, in this case Joe, then click OK. Alternatively you can go through the document adding bookmarks all over the place, e.g. for Joe, Fred, Mary, Liz etc and then later you can put in the hyperlinks to the individual sections.

Thanks to everyone for looking.

David
