We recommend DuckDuckGo for search. But if you *must* use Google search, and you're using Safari, make sure you turn on the "Send Do Not Track HTTP Header" option in the "Develop" menu.

FlopTech, thanks so much for the Safari suggestion. Found had to go to Safari, Preferences, Privacy, to turn on the "Develop" part of the Safari menu.

Takeout is not a first step: the info provided there is your data. You put that data there: google didn't track it or monitor you. Only the +1s and Buzz are things you may not remember. Takeout seems like a sop to me. And a useless one.
