I recently downloaded Instacast hoping it would allow me to download multiple podcasts, put them in a single playlist arranged from oldest to newest and play them in order while I drive. Instacast does everything except the last part... Once an episode is complete it just stops playing, it never starts playing the next episode. Is there a trick to get Instacast to play everything that is in a playlist? If not, how is it a 'playlist'?

To do that, you need a badly-documented feature called continuous playback.
Yes, it's available in the baseline version of Instacast:
In the black play screen, you can slide up a row of buttons from below.
The 4th button is an arrow with three modes:

- Per default, it's off. Playback stop after each episode.
- Press it once, and playback continues with the next item in your list.
- Press it twice, and playback continues with the previous item in the list.
