In the accounts tab of mail preferences advance section does "Authentication: Apple Token" mean. Why isn't it password?

You missed a sheet. There is a sheet after "Outgoing Mail Server sheet" and before the "final sheet" which you don't mention nor instruct how to fill in. What about that sheet? What do I do there?

I followed your instructions to a T ... several times ... and on the sheet which you fail to mention I selected PASSWORD and checked the box. However, my Mail program still does not work. It keeps giving me the same form to put my email address into, plus my password. But when I do it just gives me that same for again, and again, and again.

My Mail has worked flawlessly for many years. But several days ago it ... for the first ever ... asked me to fill in my email address and password. Why I don't know. But now my Mail program is useless and I must go on iCloud to send and receive my email ... and this is much less efficient than just using Mail like I usually do.

HELP!!

My daughter has an original iPod Touch and it's version of iOS doesn't even have iCloud as an option for setting up email. But I was able to successfully set up her iCloud account by simply choosing the IMAP option and entering settings manually.

I have minor but ridiculous issues(esp with ichat) with my mac.com address -forcing me in some instances to use the me.com address...I realize these are supposed to be one and the same - but Apple prefers the me.com address. This is so Microsoftian annoying. There really is no reason why they have to be conjoined. I really dislike the @me.com (it really should be @iCloud.com shouldn't it? ) and though i don't use it - it pops up a lot in Apple's communication to me. Apple need to sort this out. I do know they won't though. (sigh)

After two hours online with Apple geniuses one of them suggested that I go to an Apple site for forgot password. So I tried it. And that is where I discovered that Apple now requires passwords to have at least one uppercase letter and one numerical digit. Suddenly the mail on my iMac and MacBook Pro started working beautifully.

I have another .Mac mail problem that unfortunately completely out of reach to correct. I have done some freelance work for a company in the Philippines and their DNS server seems to not recognize the .Mac extension anymore. I have to use the .Me or another email account. I also have a local business partner here in Seattle with the same problem - completely different DNS servers I'm sure. I don't know what DNS servers they are but a email sent and CC'd to all my accounts come through all but the .Mac from him. But I get many emails to the .Mac account for all over the world from others.

I had a somewhat similar problem with Outlook on my Mac and its access of my .mac (now .me) email account. I began getting errors a month or so ago when trying to send from that account. I reviewed the settings and found that SSL wasn't set. Also, the incoming server was set to mail.mac.com and the outgoing to smtp.me.com. I guess they were a holdover from long ago. Setting SSL to on helped, but now I've set up the servers as recommended above and things seem to work even more reliably.

I have a really hard time with feeling comfortable with "me" being part of the incoming and outgoing servers. Ok, I hate MobileMe (I was a user since the .Mac service), and I am ecstatic that MobileMe is going away. But I really want all vestiges fully obliterated.
