I open this and it keeps showing the spinning logo. I was browsing this forums and did a few things like removing the preference files in the Library folder, even removing iPhoto and redownloading it and reinstalling it, Installed iPhoto library manager and rebuilt library and it also did not work. The Macbook Air is using the 10.7.4 Lion and iLife '11... I installed all updates and spend around a week but still nothing works. Please please please help. I need to get iPhoto working before my project end of this week. I have removed com.apple.iphoto.plist and com.apple.iphoto.lockfile.plist .... and then while those 2 files on desktop. I click on Option + Command to rebuilt 1,2 and 6 option... iPhoto still opens with the spinning logo. I have the 256gb SSD. Please help.

Well, I'm having a similar problem - only with the 9.3 update: iPhoto won't fully load and run when launched from its icon. All I get is a menu with nothing but ghosted items. Tried re-installing, repair permission, trashing prefs. Rebuilt all the databases - whatis, launch services, locate, etc. No joy!

However, all is not F.U.B.A.R., at least not for me as it WILL load and run OK if I double-click the iPhoto Library icon. Hope this helps.

I am having the exact same issue. I also updated Aperture and it is running fine. My friend is also having the same issue. We both use iMacs. I tried deleting the com.apple.iphoto.plist file, but that did not help.

Standard fix seems to be BACKUP, then rebuild and or repair the library as in the link

Loads of grief on the apple iphoto forums

My wife was having the same exact problem and I had tried all the suggested rebuilds and permissions, but it would spin the spinner all day...

Don't know if this helped, but I turned off sharing and look for shared photos in the preferences, relaunched ready to do another rebuild and wow it loaded. Could be coincidence or could have helped. Yesterday on my machine I notice my iPhoto was spending a whole lot of time trying to sync with MobileMe. So it may have been the issue.

Good luck.

I can't open iPhoto. It tries to upgrade the library, gets to step 3 0f 9 and doesn't proceed, and ends up quitting after a while. Aperture has a similar problem after I updated to 3.3.1. It just won't open. Using Lightroom until this mess is figured out. I checked with Disk Utility and everything seems fine. Maybe the OS (10.7.4) is corrupted. Tried reinstalling Aperture and iPhoto with no luck.
