I'm unable to use an external monitor with my MacBook Pro unless the computer is plugged in. The same is true of my Apple bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse. This means that the machine is plugged in a large fraction of the day -- which everything I read says is not good for the battery.
Is this the way it's supposed to work, or have I missed something?
thanks!!

leaving it plugged in most of the time doesn't hurt the battery.
not using the battery at all hurts it.
you only have so many cycles of drain/charge on a battery.
use them wisely and your battery will last long long time.
