Does anyone have any recommendations for software in this area? What do you use to balance your checkbook, see financial reports, etc.? I've used Quicken for years but it seems that every time they upgrade it they take away useful features and multiply annoyances to the point where I can't stand to use it anymore. Thanks!

The best thing I can probably give you is this link to MacInTouch. The discussion of alternatives to Quicken has been going on for years in various forums. The conclusion I get out of this is:
Quicken sucks.
On average, the alternatives suck even more.
You can probably find one that meets most of your needs tolerably well, although reporting seems to be a very common weak spot.

I've tried a few of the alternatives over the years didn't like any of them. When Lion came out I ended up with Quicken Essentials because for me that one sucked least.

Thanks for the reply. I read through some of the posts in your link. It does sound like the options go from bad to depressing.

MoneyDance works VERY WELL on the Mac. It's a cross platform Java app that imports from Quicken as well as any program can given the QIF format's limitations. www.moneydance.com. I switched about 3 years ago and have not looked back!

"I am using “Expensify” application for finance support. This is free application available in market.
The app imports your credit card purchase transactions and automatically creates receipts for most expenses less than $75. You can also track mileage, quickly generate reports with attached receipts, and submit them directly from your iPad.

I was looking into MoneyDance. One review I read said, "And reconciling doesn't allow me to put in the date span and thus does not literally balance."

Can you comment on this?
