Interesting. It looks nearly identical to the dock connector for iOS devices. I hope not too similar or it may be easy to confuse the two.

A 45W MagSafe adapter cannot power up a fully discharged MacBook Pro.

Didn't they change the Magsafe orientation for a reason? Isn't this a step back and we can possibly look forward to the same fraying issues from the first one?

Hmm, excellent point. I like the current Magsafe adapter as its very durable and doesn't stick straight out from the side of the laptop like this one presumably will. It does seem like a step backward now that you mention it.

That's the point. Apple likes your money.

I'd agree, but last time they put out a defective MagSafe, they had to replace them for free.

Initially, I thought this too, but the T-design has a big advantage in that you don't have to pay attention which way you plug it in not to block any ports. Also, if you examine the new connector, it appears much stronger than the original ones. There's a much stronger cord right at the base of the connector, so hopefully apple has learned its lesson. We'll see, I suppose.

Hooray for the return of the square connector. Having to twirl that round one every time you plugged it was a headache. Perhaps Apple will go back an undo some of the damage they inflicted on apps and the OS.

I thought I would like the round one better, but I have found it to be much more fiddly than the old one. It will be interesting to see how this new one works.

Looks like the plug on my MBA that I bought 2 years ago.

It'll be interesting to see if some enterprising company buys these $10 MagSafe converters wholesale and uses them to create a pair of adapters to connect third-party power sources to Macs. I have two iGo power supplies I'd love to use with my MacBook. All I need is a MagSafe connector.

You don't have to buy it

The advantages of the new design must be unimaginable!
