..... There's a much stronger cord right at the base of the connector, so hopefully apple has learned its lesson. We'll see, I suppose.

The cord also feels thinner and more flexible. So hopefully, it just bends like a reed instead of snapping like the mighty oak.

A 45W MagSafe adapter cannot power up a fully discharged MacBook Pro.

Not right away, but if you let it build up a bit of battery charge first you will be fine.

It'll be interesting to see if some enterprising company buys these $10 MagSafe converters wholesale and uses them to create a pair of adapters to connect third-party power sources to Macs. I have two iGo power supplies I'd love to use with my MacBook. All I need is a MagSafe connector.

Mikegyver does this.

I am not all that sure but I vaguely remember that a few years ago a third party was buying either new or used MagSafe chargers just to get the cords and connectors to build an external battery power supply. So even though they were not bootlegging Apple's patented design, and even though such a product would broaden Mac's functionality and appeal, and even though Macs were artificially limited in range because of the stupid sealed-in battery, Apple's obnoxious legal department forced the third party to cease and desist.

I will, however, be considering that Mikegyver move myself. My "travel computer", a 2011 Air is superior in every way BUT ONE to the Windows netbook it replaced -- I could travel with a second charged battery for the netbook, but when the Air's bat is dead, it is dead.

Actually that is the reason why they were sued. Apple found that they were in fact manufacturing them.

Unfortunately I found the Magsafe 2 very weak....Its impossible to use the mac for a day without lost the power connection some times.... Someone has the same problem?

Didn't they change the Magsafe orientation for a reason? Isn't this a step back and we can possibly look forward to the same fraying issues from the first one? Hmm, excellent point. I like the current Magsafe adapter as its very durable and doesn't stick straight out from the side of the laptop like this one presumably will. It does seem like a step backward now that you mention it. Initially, I thought this too, but the T-design has a big advantage in that you don't have to pay attention which way you plug it in not to block any ports. Also, if you examine the new connector, it appears much stronger than the original ones. There's a much stronger cord right at the base of the connector, so hopefully apple has learned its lesson. We'll see, I suppose.
